Florida QB prospect commits to UConn
New UConn football coach Jim Mora has added another quarterback to his roster.
Zion Turner of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. announced on Twitter Wednesday that he has committed to UConn. Turner, a three-star prospect, had offers from Miami, LSU, Kentucky, Maryland, Texas A&M, Pittsburgh, Temple, Arkansas, Coastal Carolina and Florida International.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Turner led St. Thomas Aquinas to three consecutive state titles, starting 37 games over three seasons. As a senior, he passed for 2,103 yards and 25 touchdowns with five interceptions
for a 14-1 team.
According to the website 247sports.com, Turner is ranked as the 79thbest overall prospect in Florida and the 35th-best quarterback prospect in
the country. He is UConn’s highest-ranked recruit for the Class of 2022.
Mora has overhauled the quarterback room since taking over. Freshman Tyler Phommachanh remains, but he is coming off a torn ACL. Redshirt sophomore Steven Krajewski and walk-on sophomore Jacob Drena are also still on the roster, but former starter Jack Zergiotis transferred to Merrimack.
Cale Millen, who began his college career at Oregon, transferred to UConn from Northern Arizona. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Millen is the son of former NFL quarterback Hugh Millen, a college teammate of Mora at Washington.
Also added to the roster: Penn State transfer Ta’Quan Roberson, a dualthreat quarterback who was a four-star recruit out of New Jersey in 2019.
