Snow prompts school closures
Schools throughout the Danbury area closed Thursday as wintry weather hit the region overnight and was expected to persist throughout the day. The snowfall was not quite as much as initially expected.
Many of the school districts did not make an initial decision on school Wednesday night ot planned for a two-hour delay. But as conditions changed, many waking up Thursday morning learned that schools would indeed be canceled.
Among those closed included Danbury, Brookfield, Bethel, New Milford, Sherman, Region 12, Ridgefield, Newtown and New Fairfield.
Initial rain overnight into Thursday morning was expected to turn to snow before noon, according to the National Weather Service. Superintendents in the area said the potential weather issues could have led to problems around dismissal time.
The snow, however, tapered off by the afternoon, leaving a limited
amount on roads and sidewalks. The NWS expects sun for the next two days with a high of about 20
degrees Friday and 25 Saturday. Sunday is expected to be partly sunny with a temperature near 32.
