NEWTOWN – Residents should expect “minor” traffic disruptions such as detours as soon as Tuesday, when Aquarion Water Co. begins construction to replace equipment at its Sandy Hook pump station, the utility said in a release.

Replacement work at the pump station at Bancroft Road and Alpine Drive is expected to last for at least one year, the Bridgeport-based utility said.

“We greatly appreciate residents' patience as Aquarion continues to make significant improvements to the water infrastructure in Sandy Hook,” said Mike Hiltz, Aquarion's manager of capital delivery, engineering and planning, in a prepared statement. “We will work closely with our customers, contractors, and town officials to coordinate the work and minimize any disruptions.”

No disruption in water service is expected, the utility said on Friday.

Aquarion's Sandy Hook water customers were encouraged to sign up for a free automated alert system for updates at www.aquarionwater.com/alerts.

Water customers with project-related questions may call Phat Phung, Aquarion's project manager, at 203-337-5957. For service or water-related issues, customers may call Aquarion customer service at 1-800732-9678.

The year-long construction project is meant to ensure “reliable water pressure in the distribution system serving customers in the Sandy Hook area,” the release said.

Most of the construction will be located off the road on Aquarion property, the release said. Residents should expect “minor traffic delays and possible detours during normal working hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.”
