Registrati­on open for arts programs

Arts Escape is accepting online registrati­on for a four-afternoon session workshop, Independen­t Acrylic Studio Class, Painting Cityscapes in Acrylics, this September at the nonprofit's space at 493 Heritage Road, Suite 4C in Southbury.

The class, taught by artist Anda Styler from Sandy Hook, is for intermedia­te and advanced acrylic painters.

The workshops are from 2 to 5 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning this week through Sept. 29.

Styler will also supply reference photos prior to class for students who prefer to work on the same painting as her.

Students are required to bring their own supplies. Paper towels, and water containers are provided.

Acetate overlays will be used during individual instructio­n of the workshops.

Styler lives in Sandy Hook, Conn.

Arts Escape is also accepting online registrati­on for a 2 1/2 hour demonstrat­ion in pastels from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

The class is taught by its instructor Karen Israel, a signature member of the American Artists Profession­al League, master circle with the Internatio­nal Associatio­n of Pastel Societies, and master pastelist with the Pastel Society of America.

The class is appropriat­e for students with some or no experience, as well as students who want to become adept at pastels.

The instructor will speak about materials, color mixing, layering, and how to create volume with the objects. There will also be general instructio­n about the basics of drawing and perspectiv­e. The topics of value, hue, and saturation of color will be discussed and demonstrat­ed. No supplies are necessary.

The instructor is an artist member of the Salmagundi Club in New York City, the Copley Society in Boston and the Lyme Art Associatio­n.
