Kathryn (Kathy) Anne Yoder Sandberg

June 21, 1952 - Sept 1, 2022

-

Kathryn (Kathy) Anne Yoder Sandberg, age 70, of Danbury, Connecticut, passed away suddenly after an abdominal aortic aneurysm on September 1, 2022.

Kathy was born in Stamford on June 21, 1952. Her family moved to Norwalk when she was very young. The second of four children, Kathy was an avid horse lover, who collected equine figurines, and took riding lessons for years. She graduated from Brian McMahon High School in 1970.

After graduation, Kathy attended secretarial school and worked as an executive secretary. She was an independent career woman at a time when that was still a daring thing to be. She spent most of her career supporting senior executives with Champion International and IBM. Later in her career, she worked at Best Buy.

Kathy spent a decade furthering her education, several credits at a time. She went on to earn an associate degree from Norwalk Community College and a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut.

In 1988, Kathy married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Sandberg. They have one daughter, Kirsten Sandberg, born in 1990. Kathy and Bob had a long and happy marriage and it was rare for family to see one without the other. In recent years, they have traveled together to visit family in places like Maryland and Oregon.

Kathy will be remembered as a strong, caring woman, with a wry, ironic sense of humor. She was a devoted friend, a great sister, and a loving wife and mother, absolutely dedicated to her family and her two dogs. She loved reading and was always delighted to exchange books with family members.

Kathy is predeceased by the parents, Dorothy McGowan Yoder and William Robert Yoder; as well as her sister, Susan Yoder Mendonca.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; her daughter, Kirsten; her sister, Rebecca Gammons; her brother, Bill Yoder; and 18 nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, Danbury, on Wednesday, September 7th from 5-7 PM.

A Memorial Service will be held at the United Congregational Church on Richards Avenue in Norwalk on September 18 at 2 PM. The family requests that mourners make a donation to the American Heart Association in Kathy's memory, in lieu of sending flowers.
