State teams dominate latest hockey polls

Five men’s and women’s college hockey programs in Connecticu­t are ranked among the top 20 in the country.

On the men’s side, Quinnipiac is No. 4, while UConn rose from No. 8 to No. 6.

The Bobcats (9-1-2) are on a seven-game winning streak and defeated Princeton twice with a score of 4-1 in each game last weekend.

Quinnipiac will travel to Northern Ireland for the Friendship Four where they will face Dartmouth on Friday. UMass and UMass Lowell are also in the tournament.

The Huskies (10-2-3) faced No. 13 UMass Lowell last weekend, losing 3-2 before bouncing back with 4-2 win.

The Huskies travel to New York for the Frozen Apple matchup against Cornell on Saturday at

Madison Square Garden.

On the women’s side, Quinnipiac is No. 5, Yale is No. 6 and UConn is No. 15.

The Bobcats (12-1-0) dominated No. 10 Clarkson 4-0 and St. Lawrence 5-2 last weekend. The Bobcats host the Nutmeg Classic this weekend, facing Bemidji State on Friday.

Yale (6-0-0) has begun the season undefeated and is coming off a 3-0 and 2-1 wins in over No. 11 Penn State last weekend. Yale will take on Boston University in the Las Vegas Tournament on Friday.

UConn (10-6-2) fell to Boston University twice this past weekend,yet the Huskies were able to hold onto a top 15 ranking. The Huskies will also play in the Nutmeg Classic, with their first game against Sacred Heart on Friday.
