UConn’s Dailey, to join Huskies later in week
Associate coach did not make the trip to Oregon after fainting episode
UConn associate head coach Chris Dailey did not travel to Oregon with the team Tuesday, but a team spokesperson said she is expected to join the Huskies later in the week.
UConn is in Portland for the Phil Knight Legacy tournament. The Huskies will face Duke Friday at 6 p.m.
The UConn men’s and women’s teams flew together to Oregon Tuesday afternoon. The men will face Oregon Thursday in the Phil Knight Invitational.
Dailey collapsed on the court after the national anthem before UConn’s game against NC State Sunday at the XL Center in Hartford. She left the court on a stretcher, and was conscious and alert.
UConn said in a statement that she was transferred to UConn Health and was later released following an assessment.
“CD is good,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said after the game. “Everything tested out pretty good. Nothing serious. Nothing threatening. She’s alert. She’s awake.”
Dailey, 63, has been Auriemma’s top assistant since the two coaches arrived at UConn in 1985. The New Jersey native is a member of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, the first assistant coach to be inducted.
