Railway museum’s Santa trains returns

-

The Danbury Railway Museum is hosting its annual vintage train rides with Santa Claus for the first three weekends in December.

Attendees may take a short ride in a vintage train through the historic railyard at White Street to visit with Old Saint Nick. This is a major fundraiser for the nonprofit museum. Tickets are $25 for ages 2 and up.

The museum will be open from noon to 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays on Dec. 3-4, 10-11, 17-18. Reservations are necessary for this popular event, which sold out last year.

When guests arrive and check-in at the restored 1903 train station, kids and parents will be able to enjoy the festively decorated museum interior. This includes a Letters to Santa coloring station (be sure to include your mailing address, as Santa does write back), operating model railroads, and many exhibits and artifact displays.

After a short train ride in a restored 1953 Rail Diesel Car through the historic Danbury railyard, attendees will be escorted back to the station for a meet and greet with Santa and Mrs. Claus, where the big man himself will give out the first gifts of Christmas. Returning due to its popularity last year: parents will bring a prewrapped present [or select one from the museum’s online menu (includes free gift wrapping & batteries)], and Old St. Nick will give their kids their unique present.

Trains will depart at 12:30, 2, 3:30, 5, and 6:30. The 5 and 6:30 trains will run in darkness which will be ideal for enjoying the lighted railyard.

Afterwards, attendees are free to enjoy a walk through the railyard with a cup of hot chocolate.

The Danbury Railway Museum is a nonprofit organization, staffed solely by volunteers, and is dedicated to the preservation of, and education about, railroad history.
