Holiday Greens Sale to benefit Garden Club

-

Members of The Garden Club of Newtown are hosting their annual Holiday Greens Sale from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 3.

The sale, which for over 30 years has featured uniquely crafted holiday items handmade by members, will be held in The Great Room at the Congregational Church on West Street. Signs will be posted throughout the area to direct shoppers to the new location.

Traditional wreaths, swags, boxwood trees and centerpieces will be available, as well as one-of-akind items and ornaments. The sale has been the chief fundraiser for the club for many years, allowing the membership to donate proceeds to a variety of local causes such as the Newtown Scholarship Association and the Newtown Forest Association, among others. The club is a member of The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut.

Part of its mission is to maintain the Booth Library Knot Garden, the Blue Star Memorial, the colonial garden at the Matthew Curtiss House, Barb’s Trail at Dickinson Park, and the Victory Garden.

Members of the club have been busy during the last few weeks creating individual items with native materials like pinecones, acorns, tree branches, and other flora from Newtown’s abundant woodlands.
