Eugene Skoog

-

Eugene Skoog, 89, of Southbury CT, formerly of New Milford, CT, and Punta Gorda, FL passed away on November 28, 2023. He was the son of the late Oscar Skoog and Ruth (Greene) Skoog, and husband of the late Marjorie (McBride) Skoog.

Gene was born and raised in New Milford and maintained a home there for his first 85 years. He and Marge wintered in Florida for several years, but ultimately decided they wanted to be home year-round. In 2019 they moved to Southbury.

After graduating from New Milford High School Gene worked for three years saving money for college. But in the summer of 1955, he met Marge. College was off, they were married the following May and spent the next 66 years together. After Gene spent two years proudly serving in the Army, they raised two sons, then traveled the country and the world.

After working briefly in retail management, Gene went to work in 1961 for the Prudential Insurance Company, where he had a very successful 30 plus year career, winning many awards.

Gene was an avid fisherman, an accomplished gardener, adored animals, and in his younger days was a very good athlete. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. A fan of all kinds of music, he enjoyed dancing or just listening. He also loved watching sports, especially baseball, and was a fan of the Yankees, Raiders, and Lakers.

Gene is survived by two sons and their spouses, Bruce and Stacy of Southbury, and Brian and Shannon of Warren, as well as granddaughters Lindsey and Jennifer. He was predeceased by his wife Marge, a younger brother, Donald, who died in infancy, and granddaughter Deirdre. He also leaves behind relatives and friends too numerous to count or mention here.

A celebration and brief remembrance of Gene's life will be held Saturday December 9th at the Lillis Funeral Home 58 Bridge Street in New Milford from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Burial next to his beloved Marge will immediately follow in New Milford Center Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to New Milford Animal Welfare or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
