DANBURY — A Danbury man was recently taken into custody for allegedly harassing and threatening to kill a woman last year, according to police.

Arlindo Jorge Souza-DeAndrade, 26, was arrested on a warrant on first-degree harassment and second-degree threatening charges Dec. 2, stemming from a March 2022 complaint filed by a woman, who told Danbury police his “abusive and threatening behavior” had made her fear for her life.

According to the warrant for his arrest, the woman told police she left her apartment and had a friend rent her a place to stay after Souza-DeAndrade made threats toward her and her family.

The victim claimed that Souza-DeAndrade “kept repeatedly calling and texting her” and at one point threatened to kill her, the warrant states. After blocking him from contacting her directly, she said Souza-DeAndrade started reaching out to mutual friends of theirs to find out where she was.

Police said the victim described Souza-DeAndrade as “a very dangerous man” and said she was “afraid of what he will do to her.” According to the warrant for Souza-DeAndrade’s arrest, the woman said she believed he would kill her if he found her.

Upon determining probable cause existed to arrest SouzaDeAndrade on first-degree harassment and second-degree threatening — a class D felony and a class A misdemeanor, respectively — Danbury police sought and obtained a warrant March 2022.

The warrant for SouzaDeAndrade’s arrest states that an officer completed a lethality assessment with the victim and “she screened in high danger.”

According to the state Police Officer Standards and Training Council, a lethality assessment is used to identify “victims who are at the highest risk of danger or serious injury by their abuser.”

In addition to first-degree harassment and second-degree threatening, Souza-DeAndrade was charged the morning of Dec. 2, with illegal operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, evading responsibility, failure to drive in proper lane and operating a motor vehicle without a license, as well as failure to appear, according to the Danbury police arrest logs.

He has also plead not guilty to felony third-degree burglary and three misdemeanor charges stemming from a March 2022 incident, according to court records. He was charged with first-degree failure to appear on those charges on April 26, 2022, court records show.

Souza-DeAndrade remains held on a $15,000 set bond with a Jan. 3 hearing scheduled at state Superior Court in Danbury on Jan. 3, according to court records, which show no attorney assigned to his case as of Monday.
