Some water service restored at WestConn
DANBURY — A water main break prompted Western Connecticut State University to close both campuses on Friday.
In an update around 9:25 a.m., the school said water had been restored and that food services were available in the campus center. The campus center dining services are operating on a snow day schedule from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The school is divided between two campuses, both in Danbury — the west side campus off Lake Avenue Extension and the midtown campus on White Street.
The school said the water main break occurred on the Westside campus between its commuter lot and the Westside Classroom Building.
The school’s shuttle service was running Friday, but operating on a weekend schedule, university officials said.
“Some rooms in the Westside Classroom Building have been impacted [and] will have to be relocated,” the school said in a post on X. Students with classes in that building were instructed to check their email to see whether their classes were impacted, or to contact their professor before class on Monday to see whether it would be moved.
“Students with rotations, internships or other in-person off-campus commitments are to follow the requirements of their host location,” the school said.
The water main break came amid several days of frigid temperatures across Connecticut. Another round of snow began falling by mid-morning, and was expected to bring an inch or more across western parts of the state.
WCSU officials said faculty, staff and students “must move their vehicles from all surface lots including University Boulevard” during snow events.
Drivers have to move their cars to covered lots in order for snow to be removed, the university said, or risk having them towed.
