KEEP AN EYE ON

Still streaking: UConn women’s basketball will put its 12-game win streak and its unbeaten Big East record on the line Tuesday when it travels to Milwaukee to play Marquette.

The Huskies last met the Golden Eagles three weeks ago on New Year’s Eve at the XL Center. UConn walked away with the 95-64 win thanks to 25 points from Paige Bueckers, a double-double from Aaliyah Edwards and a career-high 10 rebounds from point guard Nika Mühl.

The loss was Marquette’s first of the year after starting the season with a program-best 12 wins.

But as UConn knows from last year’s loss, playing the Golden Eagles at their home venue isn’t always easy.

Marquette handed the Huskies

one of their most historic losses in program history last February. After losing to South Carolina on Feb. 5 in Harford, then-No. 4 UConn fell 59-52 to an unranked Golden Eagles’ squad three days later in Milwaukee.

The win marked Marquette’s first-ever over UConn and the Huskies’ first time losing back-to-back games for the first time in 30 years. While the Golden Eagles led for 33 minutes of the game, the Huskies had only eight available players due to injuries.

On Wednesday, they’ll have nine. Staying busy: The Huskies played twice last week, most recently on Saturday, while the Golden Eagles haven’t played since last Wednesday when they were upset at unranked Villanova, 66-63.

Sophomore guard Mackenzie Hare led Marquette with 21 points (including going 5 of 10 on 3-pointers). The Golden Eagles led by seven with less than four minutes remaining before a 10-0 run by Villanova secured the upset. The Wildcats didn’t get their first lead of the game until the final 30 seconds.

Since last playing UConn on Dec. 31 in Harford, the Golden Eagles have gone 3-2 with losses at Villanova and at St. John’s (57-56).

Marquette is second in the Big East behind UConn in scoring offense (averaging 77.1 points per game), scoring margin (beating opponents by an average of 17.2 points), assists (19.8 a game) and field goal percentage (48.9 %). The Golden Eagles lead the conference in 3-point field goal percentage, averaging a 39.6 percent clip, and in rebounding margin (grabbing 8.3 boards per game more than opponents). Some history: The Huskies are 18-1 all-time against Marquette, including their win on New Year’s Eve.
