Ridgefield High to reopen Tuesday after flooding

RIDGEFIELD — Ridgefield High School is expected to reopen Tuesday, after being forced to close Monday due to flooding over the weekend, officials said.

The school will make some classroom changes due to the flooding, Ridgefield Schools Superintendent Susie DaSilva said on Monday.

“We will be using different classrooms and using the library,” she said.

Ridgefield High School Principal Jacob Greenwood said, “We will be ‘business as usual’ tomorrow. Most damage was in the main office and the admin team can manage in alternate spaces.”

The school was using many blowers to dry out the areas where the flooding took place, he said.

In an email to the community Sunday, Greenwood said the high school sustained substantial flooding inside the building. He said the damage was in the second and third floor C wings, main office area and health office.

In the email, Greenwood said maintenance and custodial crews had begun addressing the damage and cleaning affected classrooms and offices. The closure included the Alternative High School and Ridgefield Transition Program, Greenwood said, adding after-school activities would still take place.

Over the weekend in Ridgefield, about 3 inches of rain was recorded, according to the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail &

Snow Network. Rainy weather is predicted through most of the remainder of the week. Tuesday will start mostly cloudy before a slight chance of rain later in the day. More rain is expected Tuesday night into Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
