“I would like you to do us a favor, though...”
On Tuesday the House Judiciary Committee’s Democratic majority released two proposed articles of impeachment against President Trump. Article one charges abuse of power for using the high office to solicit the interference of a foreign government in the 2020 United States Presidential election. Article two charges Obstruction of Congress, that “Donald J. Trump has directed the unprecedented, categorical, and indiscriminate defiance of subpoenas issued by the House of Representatives pursuant to its ‘sole Power of Impeachment.’”
The document ends with the words,” Wherefore, President Trump, by such conduct, has demonstrated that he will remain a threat to the Constitution if allowed to remain in office, and has acted in a manner grossly incompatible with self-governance and the rule of law. President Trump thus warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States.” The facts were laid out in weeks of sworn testimony by credible witnesses and one hopes that Senators/judges in the trial will consider the facts and the facts only. —D.H.—
