August marked a busy month at the Port of Nome, bringing with it several research vessels, barges, and tugboats despite rainy conditions and ongoing constructi­on projects. During Monday’s Council meeting Port Director Joy Baker reported that the launch ramp repair had encountere­d a snag but that it would still meet its projected finishing goal of end of September. She said that constant rains made the water murky for most of August and contractor STG had to change methodolog­y which needed approval by the Army Corps of Engineers and the State DEC. Approval has been given and now they wait on bladder equipment being trucked and flown to Nome with arrival projected at Sept. 2.

On August 3, several vessels made their way into and out of the Port of Nome. Drake Constructi­on’s vessel Kotz Sound, towed by the Bristol Wind, brought freight into the port, and departed the same day. Ridge’s Klinkwan, towed by the Sitka, also arrived that day, carrying gravel. Brice’s Diosquori, towed by the Billy H, departed. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game research vessel Pandalus departed, while the Alaska Knight, a research vessel, arrived.

On August 4, the Alaska Knight departed. Several other vessels arrived and departed from the port the same day, including AK Logistics vessel Seahawk, towing the Madison Rose, arrived in the Port of Nome to deliver freight and undergo a U.S. Coast Guard inspection. Brice’s Sam B, towing the LA B, brought freight into port that day, as well as Alaska Marine Lines vessel Polar Storm, towing the Bering Trader. The ADF&G Pandalus returned that day.

August 5 saw Crowley’s SIKU, towing the 180-1, delivering fuel, and Brice’s Marie H, towing the Martin Rae, arrived for gravel. The Sam B, towing the LA B, departed the same day.

On August 6, the SIKU, towing the 180-1, left, while the AML Nunaniq, carrying freight, arrived.

On August 7, Brice’s Marie H, towing the Martin Rae, departed.

On August 8, Ridge’s Sitka, towing the RM250, brought gravel into port before departing the same day. AML’s Nunuaniq also departed.

On August 9, Brice’s Billy H, towing the Diosquori, arrived to take on gravel. Crowley’s fuel tanker High Prosperity remained just offshore.

On August 10, the Billy H towed the Diosquori out of port.

On August 12, AML’s Nunaniq, carrying freight, and Ridge’s Sitka, towing the Klinkwan for gravel, arrived. ADF&G’s Pandalus departed the same day.

August 13 was busy at the Port of Nome, seeing three separate vessels arriving. Crowley’s Avik, towing the BC152, brought fuel into port, while AK Logistics’ vessel the Fish Hawk, towing the Logistics Provider, brought freight, and Bering Pacific Services vessel the Diane H, towing the Kumtux, brought freight. Ridge’s Sitka, towing the Klinkwan, departed the same day.

On August 15, Brice’s Marie H, towing the Martin Rae, arrived in the port with gravel, while AK Logistics vessel Fish Hawk, towing the Logistics Provider, departed.

On August 16, the University of Alaska, Fairbanks research vessel Sikuliaq arrived, while the Tuvli departed.

On August 17, the Sikuliaq departed, as did Brice’s Marie H, towing the Martin Rae. AML’s Polar Storm, towing the Westward Trader and carrying freight, arrived.

On August 18, Brice’s Billy H, towing the Diosquori, arrived.

On August 20, Bering Pacific Services vessel Diane H, towing the Kumtux, arrived and departed from the port on August 21, as did Brice’s Billy H. Brice’s Kinani, towing the Diosquori, arrived and departed on August 21.

On August 22, AML’s Nunaniq, carrying freight, and Brice’s Sitka, towing the Klinkwan with gravel and freight, arrived at the Port. AML’s Greta, carrying freight, arrived and departed the same day.

Monday, August 23, was another busy day at the Port of Nome, with four separate vessels arriving and two departing. Brice’s Marie H, towing the Martin Rae, and the Sitka, towing the Klinkwan both arrived that day. The Martin Rae came for gravel, while the Klinkwan came for gravel and freight. Crowley’s Avik, towing the BC152, brought fuel, and the Tuvli II brought freight. AML’s Nunaniq and Brice’s Sitka, towing the Klinkwan, departed the same day.
