Gabriel “Gaiguk” Joseph Myomick was born and raised in St. Michael, Alaska. He was born to William and Olga Myomick on September 8, 1940. Olga passed away when he was young and Billy eventually married Flora, who was a part of Gabe’s upbringing.

Gabe began his journey into the afterlife at the age of 83 on February 29, 2024 at 10:39 a.m. in Nome, Alaska, where he was currently residing.

Gabe was a very humble man. He got along with everyone. His main employment was in the summer months as a tugboat captain in his younger years. He worked various other jobs throughout his life. He enjoyed being with his friends, namely Malorie Tom, who helped him upkeep his house for many years and checked on him all the time to make sure he was doing ok. He was a wonderful storytelle­r and had so much passion and knowledge from the olden days. He spoke his Yupik language to his family and was very soft-spoken and quiet. He spoke of many travels all over the state and beyond. He also enjoyed football, lap game, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his daughter Celia Edwards and her children: Conrad, Kendra Amos (children

Tahlia and Adriel), Stella Ann and husband Ross Knerman, and Walter Carl Amos; Sisters Virginia Shipton, Elizabeth Windisch, Anne Otten, Susie Otten and Paula Myomick; Brother Frankie B. Myomick Jr. and wife Justina; and many nieces and nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his niece Summer Myomick, great nephew Clyde Ongtowasru­k II; great nephew Alex Otten, Jr., Brothers in law John Shipton, Vincent Otten and Roger Otten, Sr.; Brothers Peter, Matthew, Alfred, Sr. and Thomas Myomick; Sister Sarah Myomick; Father:illiam Myomick; Mother Olga Myomick; Step-mother Flora Myomick.

We’d like to say thank you to NSHC QCC staff including Melissa O’Conner for all her assistance, NSEDC, NSHC, BSNC, Shane Aluska for watching him and escorting him to Nome, Matthew Andrews, Jr. for the cross, City for the ride, grave diggers, family and friends who have in anyway been there for Gabe, everyone who has brought food. We apologize if we have forgotten anyone, it was not intentiona­l.
