Narcotics Trafficking: On March 5, 2024, the Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) in Nome, The Postal Inspection Service, Nome Alaska State Troopers, and Nome PD conducted a controlled delivery of a parcel that had contained approximately 184 grams of cocaine shipped from California to Nome. The controlled delivery stemmed from a concentrated and focused effort between Nome SDEU and the Anchorage Office of the US Postal Inspection Service into the distribution of narcotics into Nome and the Norton Sound Region as a whole from source states in the contiguous US.
The controlled delivery operation led to the arrest of Joanne Stickel, 63, of Nome. Stickel was arrested and charged with Misconduct Involving Controlled Substances in the third degree, a class B felony, for possession with the intent to distribute cocaine. She was remanded into the Anvil Mountain Correctional Center without bail pending arraignment.
The 184 grams of cocaine seized in this investigation has an estimated Nome street value of approximately $27, 600; as cocaine in Nome typically sells for $150.00 per gram. The investigation is ongoing.
On March 8, 2024, the Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) in Nome and the Postal Inspection
Service concluded a multi-state cocaine distribution investigation with the arrest of David Stickel, age 31, of Nome, AK. David was arrested on the charge of Misconduct Involving Controlled Substances in the third degree, a Class B felony, and was remanded into the Anvil Mountain Correctional Center where he was held without bail pending arraignment.
Following David’s arrest, members of the Nome Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit, US Postal Inspection Service, Nome State Troopers, and the Nome Police Department served a search warrant on his residence which led to the seizure of cash and evidence related to the distribution of narcotics.
David Stickel, owner of Southpaw Services, was identified as the shipper of a USPS parcel containing approximately 184 grams of cocaine from California to Nome. Law enforcement intercepted the parcel and conducted a “controlled delivery” of the parcel on March 5, 2024.
