UTC pays $14M in bribery probe

United Technologies will pay $13.9 million after a Securities & Exchange Commission probe into what is said were illicit payments to win business in China for UTC’s Otis Elevator and Pratt & Whitney aircraft engine subsidiaries. UTC is one of the two largest corporate employers in Connecticut, alongside General Dynamics and its Electric Boat subsidiary in Groton. UTC and Otis are based in Farmington and Pratt & Whitney has its headquarters plant in East Hartford.
