Bridgeport woman accused of selling crack
NORWALK — A Bridgeport woman was caught with a blunt in her hand and crack in her pocket after officers noticed a crowd of people gathering outside a mom-and-pop grocery shop, police said.
Members of the Norwalk Police Department’s Strategic Narcotic Enforcement Team were patrolling Woodward Avenue around 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday when a large gathering outside of Los Luceros supermarket caught their attention.
Police said when the officers approached the group, a woman, later identified as Ashleigh Jones, 22, of State Street, Bridgeport, walked across the street.
Officers approached Jones, who police said had one of her hands clenched in a fist “as though she was concealing something,” at which point they saw her throw something on the ground. Police said they later identified the tossed object as a blunt.
A subsequent search of Jones revealed eight bags totaling 0.96 grams of crack cocaine concealed in her jacket pocket, police said, which resulted in her arrest.
After being transported to police headquarters, Jones allegedly grew uncooperative and obstructed police from collecting her fingerprints.
Jones was charged with possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school, interfering with an officer, failure to comply with fingerprinting and jaywalking. She was held on a $5,000 bond, and she was given a court date of Sept. 20.
