$1 million Powerball ticket sold in state

- By Jim Shay

While no one hit the $470 million jackpot from Saturday’s Powerball drawing, a ticket sold in Connecticut is worth a measly million bucks.

With no ticket matching all the numbers drawn Saturday — 16-54-57-62-69 PB-23 PP-2 — the jackpot now grows to an estimated $620 million. The cash value of the Wednesday’s jackpot is $353.3 million.

Connecticut was one of seven states that did have Powerball tickets that matched five numbers for a $1 million prize.

The winning ticket was sold at Prospect Smoke Shop, 50 Waterbury Road, in Prospect.

The Powerball jackpot is small compared to the $1.6 billion Mega Millions drawing expected on Tuesday.

The jackpot totals in both games are expected to increase as Mega Million and Powerball fever heats up.

The Mega Millions jackpot will likely set a record, and the Powerball jackpot will be the third largest ever for that game on Wednesday.

The second-largest jackpot was a $1.586 billion Powerball drawing on Jan. 13, 2016.

The Mega Millions jackpot has been growing since July, when a group of 11 California office workers won $543 million.

The odds of winning Mega Millions are about one in 302 million. The Powerball odds are slightly better at one in 292.2 million. It costs two bucks to play each game.
