The “Coming in June” sign has been changed to “Now Open” for Juddy’s Place Sports Bar and Cafe.

The 2,200-square-foot establishment featuring a 40-foot-long black walnut bar and spacious patio area is open for business at 66 Sugar Hollow Road in Danbury near the Ridgefield line. Since this spring, drivers along Route 7 have seen the sign promising a June opening. The wait is over as Juddy’s Place opened last week.

Owner Daniel J. Mulvihill Jr. said he wanted to get the bar just as he envisioned it before opening to the public. He said it was nearly a yearlong process from conception to opening.

“It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to be a bar owner,” he said. “I wanted to be an entertainer and bar owner.”

Mulvihill, who also owns a real estate company in Danbury, has already checked the box on being an entertainer, having worked as an actor and DJ. He plans to incorporate plenty of entertainment into Juddy’s Place with open-mic nights, live bands, trivia nights and karaoke. He also plans to have themed nights with music from the ’80s, ’70s and oldies.

Mulvihill said Juddy’s will have a happy hour every day from 4 to 7 p.m.

Juddy’s Place features a sunken dance floor, one of the few in Danbury, further showing Mulvihill’s commitment to entertainment. The pool table area features a state-of-the-art jukebox. Music from the inside is wired to play at the large patio area that features its own bar, covered seating and open-air seating. Mulvihill calls the patio area “Slice of Heaven.”

Eight large-screen televisions are strategically placed to allow customers to watch sports no matter where they are in the bar.

“I think people want a sports bar in the area,” Mulvihill said, pointing out the recent closure of Tiger’s Den in Ridgefield. “I wanted to make a local bar that people can come to and have a good time.”

The centerpiece of Juddy’s Place is the 40-foot bar, which was crafted by Board Silly, a custom sawmill in Ridgefield.

“People are always looking for a good place to go and this place is great,” said Janet Masline, who sipped a drink during happy hour this week. “It’s big and bright and has a great bar. I’ll be back.”

Terry Masline added: “This place has a ton of potential. I think a lot of people will stop in.”

Juddy’s Place has 12 beers on tap, stored and distributed by a state-ofthe-art Micro Matic system, in addition to a wide selection of wine and liquor. The beer selection is a mix of craft beers and traditional brands. He currently offers Charter Oak Brewing, a Danbury-based brewery, and hopes to get selections from Ridgefield’s Nod Hill Brewery soon.

“I think that’s important, to work with other local businesses,” Mulvihill said.

The menu features classic bar food, such as wings, pizza, burgers, chili dogs, pretzels and nachos.

Mulvilhill named the bar after his father, Daniel “Juddy” Mulvihill Sr., who died in 1995. Mulvihill Sr. served in the Air Force and Juddy’s Place will hold charitable events to benefit organizations such as Wounded Warriors.

“In interested in giving back to the community and we have to take care of our vets. That’s number one,” Mulvihill Jr. said.

Mulvihill will hold a grand opening weekend with special events and giveaways on Nov. 9-10. Juddy’s Place may be reached at 203-820-4614.
