Home improvement expertise
Neil Cohen might be new as a Realtor, but he has years of experience in the property management and home improvements fields. That knowledge, Cohen said, will and has made him a better Realtor.
Cohen began as a Realtor working for Weichert Realtors Madison and Post in February. Prior to that, he was a stay-at-home father for his three children for seven years. But he also dabbled in property management for more than 10 years and prior to that worked several years in home improvement, where he helped refinish basements, added bathrooms and replaced decks on properties.
“People looking to buy or sell a home should call me because I know what can and cannot be done right off the bat, as far as expanding a home, adding bathrooms or updating,” he said. “I know things others might now know. I can see a deck, for example, and know if it will need to be replaced in a year or two. I know the products, so people have a better understanding of what they are getting into prior to the inspection process.”
Today, Cohen works primarily with firsttime home, buyers mostly in his home base of Stamford.
“I enjoy the excitement people get when they are looking at homes and starting their futures,” Cohen said. “It all starts with listening to them and finding out their wants and needs and making sure there is a real expectation of what can happen financially and physically on the homes.”
Cohen works everywhere in southern Fairfield County, but 90 percent of his work is in Stamford. He also hopes to be working
soon in Westchester County in New York.
Stamford, Cohen said, “is constantly evolving. It has amazing family activities. It also has the waterfront, beaches and parks.”
Cohen said Weichert office manager Karen Danks is a like a mentor to him and has had a positive influence on him for the short time he’s been with the company.
“She takes me on open houses, homes inspections and on client meetings,” Cohen said of Danks. “I’ve seen things, thanks to Karen, from a different set of eyes.”
Cohen enjoys hiking, cooking and spending time with his children: a 6 ½ year-old and 4-year-old twins.
