After a slow start, the Norwalk High boys lacrosse team has won three of its last four games, including back-to-back one-goal victories as the Bears nipped Fairfield Warde 10-9 in double overtime and then edged Danbury 7-6. NHS trailed Warde 8-3 in the third quarter before scoring six goals in the final stanza as Jovani Jean-Charles tied it with 40 seconds remaining in regulation. Freshman Da’Quan Keel then netted the winner with 3:20 left in the second OT. Clifton Prophete assisted on both goals.

Nick Esposito had four goals while Keel finished with three goals and three assists ... The Bears also came from behind against Danbury, trailing 6-3 in the fourth period before rallying for four goals as Irvens Dupuy snapped a 6-6 tie with 2:30 left.

The NHS girls lacrosse team was also celebratin­g after defeating St. Joe’s 14-9. Jen McCarthy and Christine Mace each scored twice while

The Brien McMahon baseball team traveled to Cooperstow­n, N.Y., and blanked Danbury 2-0 at famed Doubleday Field in the shadows of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Todd Lyons fired a five-hitter and struck out 12, throwing only 73 pitches in the 90-minute contest. Dillon Roberts singled in one run while the other scored on an error.

Good pitching also carried Norwalk High to victory as Andrew Merritt tossed a four-hitter, fanned seven and allowed only an unearned run in the Bears’ 2-1 win over Ridgefield, snapping the Tigers’ seven-game win streak. Alex Morsanutto and Nick Pitasi had the RBIs.

In track, Brien McMahon’s Dean McLeod captured three events and ran a leg on the winning 4x400 relay team to lead the Senators to wins over Stamford and Bassick ... Norwalk’s Malik Miller was also a triple winner as the Bears outpointed St. Joseph.

The Brien McMahon and Norwalk girls softball teams continued their winning ways. The Senators remained unbeaten in the FCIAC by outsluggin­g Westhill 25-10 as Jeannine Wax collected four hits, including two triples and four RBIs.

Allison Neibauer also had four hits and drove in three runs, while Tricia Santopietr­o added three hits and three RBIs. Danyell Moseley belted a three-run homer and Sandra Purcell had a three-run triple. Pitcher Stacey Colcone registered her 10th win.

The Lady Bears, with only one FCIAC loss, knocked off previously unbeaten Staples 12-8. Jeannette Grey went 5-for-5 while Deanna Cusuamano and Kelly Dominick each had three hits. Cusuamano also drove in three runs.

In baseball, West Division leader Norwalk won its sixth straight as the Bears beat Greenwich 5-1. Glenn Katz and Duvian Montoya both homered, Mark Boccuzzi and

Billy DiStefano each hit triples, and

Todd Incantalup­o pitched a threehitte­r for his sixth win.

The NHS lacrosse team improved to 10-2 as the Bears routed Daniel Hand 19-4. Mike Corry had five goals and two assists, while Ira Vanterpool added four goals and four assists. Corry’s seven points gave him 60 for the season and 201 for his career, making him the first player in city history to reach the 200-point plateau.

Coming off three straight shutouts, the Central Catholic baseball team received another well-pitched game as Steve Connolly and Steve Casi hurled a combined three-hitter in the Cavaliers’ 6-3 win over Kolbe. Connolly went the first six innings and struck out eight, while Casi struck out the side in the seventh. Connolly also hit a two-run homer while Terry Ryan had two hits, including an RBI double, and Ken Kopec tripled in another run.

The city’s other two high school teams were also the beneficiar­y of good pitching. Norwalk beat Andrew Warde 4-2 as Ray Rsaza and

Roger Dorn teamed up to toss a four-hitter. Joe Lametta led the offense with two hits, including a key two-run single, while Ken Hosack and Dorn added RBI singles.

Brien McMahon snapped a threegame losing streak with a 5-2 win over Stamford as Chris Klein took a two-hit shutout into the seventh inning and finished with a fourhitter. Ernie Marsan and Tom Safir each delivered a two-run single while Felix Rodriguez and Larry Levine had two hits.

Track and field was in the news as McMahon’s Charlie Brown was named the Most Outstandin­g Runner at the seventh annual Rippowam Invitation­al after sweeping the 100 and 220 yard dashes. A total of 250 athletes representi­ng 26 schools in the state participat­ed in one of the season’s biggest meets ... McMahon also beat New Canaan in a dual meet 105-40 as Mark Kreymborg won the shot put, discus, high jump and long jump.

Central Catholic outpointed Our Saviour 87-35 as Kevin Maxwell won three events while Bob Archer and Frank Ouellette were double winners ... Norwalk beat Andrew Warde 83-61 as Mike Caden won the 880 and mile, and was part of the winning mile relay team.

The Norwalk High golf team beat Roger Ludlowe 4-1 at Shorehaven as Randy Keleher shot a team-low 84.
