The Norwalk Hour

Hey, not everyone agrees with me

If Boughton had won the primary, he would have had the crossover appeal that would have won the governor’s race for the GOP. Instead, statewide Republicans got fooled again, backing a selffunder who lost, again.

Ken: “... throw the baby out with the bong water.” I love it! Wonderful column (May 5). M.L.

And yes, the General Assembly, while passing a phasedin $15 minimum wage, as well as a paid family and medical leave program, have failed to bring Gov. Ned Lamont’s proposals for highway tolls and recreational marijuana sales for adults to the floor of the House and Senate.

Your (June 23 column) praising Lowell Weicker is disgusting. He was a pompous blowhard who got his comeuppance when Joe Lieberman beat him for a senate seat (in 1988) and he cried like a baby. He lied to the people of CT and paid the price ... B.M.

... Ken Dixon exudes negativity toward President Nixon, in a brash manner that seems unfair without discussing some of the positive accomplishments ... Nixon’s never ending quest for peace, and world stability was tremendous. A.S.

The first words of Weicker’s obit will recall how he ousted a crooked president who resigned in disgrace. Henry Kissinger’s will highlight the secret, illegal bombing of Cambodia.

Ken: It’s a wonder you can get up in the morning being so angry about everything (July 7). FYI the USA women won the World Cup, though (Sports columnist) Jeff Jacobs is probably angry that there were no LGBTQ men on the team. Maybe next time. S.J.

How can I be angry when I have your emails to look forward to?

Your recent (June 7) article on nervous legislators now backing away from supporting the legalization of marijuana is disturbing. It is outrageous that something with this much public support could be denied to the taxpayers of this state because they lack courage, or even worse, fear of (innercity) pastors. Your article only explicitly names supporters of legalization. We need the names of the cowardly Democrats so that we can actively target these fools for defeat. B.M.

When state lawmakers want to hide, they can count on their House and Senate caucus members to protect them behind a facade of “studying” a controversial issue.

Mr. Dixon: There are a lot of people leaving CT ( June 16) and it is all about taxes. It is easy to call the Democrats’ victory in CT as part of the antiTrump backlash. It is also not true. (Mark) Boughton lost the primary because he did not support Trump. (Bob) Stefanowski supported Trump. He received far more votes than he should have considering the huge majority of Democrats in CT and his lack of experience. J.A.

Ken: Your article was written purely out of anger/ spite and shows how insecure you are ... Like many other business professionals, I have decided to relocate to a more taxfriendly state with a strong economy. The next recession will ultimately destroy this state and I don’t see anything positive coming from here for 20plus years of complete fiscal restructuring. People like you are the reason for one of the largest state failures in our nation’s history. You must be so proud of your spite article. We will all laugh at you as the Titanic sinks. S.Q.

J.A.: If Boughton had won the primary, he would have had the crossover appeal that would have won the governor’s race for the GOP. Instead, statewide Republicans got fooled again, backing a selffunder who lost, again.

S.Q.: If nominated, I will run away. If elected, I will swerve.

Ken: Your column about the (arson that destroyed the) Shakespeare Theater, (Jan. 20) was on point. I agree with you. If the marketplace wanted/needed/demanded a theater in Stratford, then within the last 30 years it would have happened. Obviously, there was not enough of a need or demand for the theater to be revitalized and it lay dormant, like the Majestic and Poli theaters in Bridgeport.

We live in an region where there are many entertainment options. The cost of entertainment is not cheap. Theater in New Haven, Waterbury, Wallingford, and Hartford is not that much less than on Broadway. Therefore, most people choose judicially where and how they spend their entertainment dollars.

I think that it would be a mistake for the state to invest tax dollars in a new theater in Stratford or anywhere else. Those who cling to the hope of rebuilding and revitalizing the Majestic and Poli theaters and a theater in Stratford are clinging to a a hope and fantasy that will not and should not come true with public funds.

I do not know what should go on the grounds of the former theater or how the property should be developed, but I know that it does not need to be a theater that will eventually be abandoned once the shine, luster and curiosity wears off. Keep up the good work and bursting the bubbles and balloons of the unrealistic and impractical dreamers. A.H.

Thanks A.H.: “... But I am bound upon a wheel of fire, that mine own tears do scald like molten lead” from King Lear.
