Mike Pignataro has been named managing editor of the Norwalk Hour.

Most recently, he was digital news editor at Hearst Connecticut Media Group, a role he will continue in addition to leading the Norwalk Hour newsroom.

“Mike excels at local journalism with a sense of urgency and timeliness in meeting the needs and interests of readers,” said Matt DeRienzo, vice president of news and digital content at Hearst Connecticut Media Group. “We are looking forward to a Norwalk Hour with improved local coverage and a constant exchange of ideas with the community.”

After beginning his career covering sports, Pignataro became the managing editor of several Hearst Connecticut Media’s weekly newspapers, including the former Norwalk Citizen. Pignataro spent five years as an editor with AOL’s Patch.com before returning to Hearst Connecticut as an assistant managing editor in Danbury and Stamford.

In his role as digital news editor, he oversaw breaking news coverage and digital content for Hearst Connecticut Media Group, including its extensive coverage of the disappearance of New Canaan mother Jennifer Dulos.

Mike lives in Norwalk with his wife, Lindsay, and their two children, Lilly, 9, and Luke, 7.

“I’m looking forward to leading the coverage of this city. As a Norwalk resident myself, I enjoy the many great aspects of the city, while I also understand the challenges it faces. We will continue to highlight all of these things, while also delving deeper into the most critical issues facing residents and business owners,” he said. “There is a lot on the horizon — from ongoing development to the new mall and a local election this fall — and we will continue to be there every step of the way. But if we miss something, let me know. Your feedback is vital in helping to shape our coverage each day.”
