Police: Drugdealing tip leads to 3 arrests

- By Pat Tomlinson

NORWALK — A tip about possible heroin deals happening on the corner of a South Norwalk street led to three arrests Monday afternoon.

Police spokesman Lt. Terry Blake said the department’s Special Services Division received the tip around 1 p.m. The caller told investigators that a man was conducting suspected narcotic transactions on the corner of South Main and Merritt streets.

Officers responded to the scene, where they found two men and a woman huddled nearby. As police approached, Blake said, the three people turned and began to walk away, Blake said.

One man, later identified as 21yearold Joshua Chandler, threw a glass bottle into a nearby parking lot as officers approached him, police said, and then tried to cross the street to avoid them.

Blake said the three people eventually stopped at the officers’ commands, but Chandler continued being uncooperative. After a brief struggle, he was placed into handcuffs and arrested while the other two people were interviewed, according to Blake.

The other man, Dijuan Paulk, 42, was later found to be in possession of four folds of heroin and a crack pipe, Blake said. He, too, was arrested on the scene.

The third person was released by police with a ticket for drug paraphernalia possession.

Paulk, of Glendenning Street, Norwalk, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held on $10,000 bond and given a court date of Sept. 19.

Chandler, of South Main Street, Norwalk, was charged with littering, being a negligent pedestrian and resisting arrest. He was held on $2,500 bond and given a court date of Sept. 19.
