Norwalk man invited to Stamford house party charged in theft
STAMFORD — A Norwalk man invited to a Stamford house party in July was arrested for allegedly burglarizing his hostess’ bedroom, stealing about $95,000 worth of jewelry, cash and other valuables.
Pedro Gutierrez, 38, of Bouton Street, Norwalk was charged with thirddegree larceny and was freed after posting $10,000 bond.
Property Crimes Sgt. Sean Scanlan said the incident took place at a West Side house party held under a tent in the backyard on July 30. The hostess was careful to lock her bedroom door for the party, which had a lot of guests.
But during the evening someone asked to get into the room for some reason and the hostess allowed it.
Scanlon said the hostess forgot to lock the door after the female guest used it and it remained open until about 1:30 a.m. when the party ended. While cleaning up, the woman noticed that her valuables were missing.
Because she had been worried about such an event occurring, the woman had pointed a surveillance camera at her bedroom door before the party started. When police looked at the surveillance video, they saw the allowed woman go in and out of the bedroom, but they also saw a man, who was later identified as Gutierrez. He was the only other person to go into the room.
With the help of the woman’s husband, investigator Damien Rosa was able to identify the man as Gutierrez.
He is scheduled to be arraigned on the larceny charge Oct. 28.
