The Brien McMahonNor­walk High coop girls swim team notched its first win of the season by outpointin­g Fairfield 9471 to even its record at 11. The Norwalkers won 11 of the 12 events, including two apiece by Rachel Smolensky (50 freestyle, 100 backstroke), Meredith Pramer (100 butterfly, 200 IM) and

Stephanie Czulewicz (200 and 500 freestyles). Laura Portillo (100 breaststro­ke) and Marisa Shields (100 freestyle) also recorded firstplace finishes.

An outstandin­g allaround effort by Angie Cruz led the McMahon volleyball team to a 31 win over Wilton. Cruz finished 13 service points, 12 kills, 21 digs, two blocks and two aces. Kate Lewis added a teamhigh 12 assists.

The McMahon football team celebrated Homecoming with a 227 win over Stamford as the Senators improved to 21. Clement Abonyi returned the opening kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown, while quarterbac­k Damien Vega threw two secondhalf TD passes.

Terron Edwards had an intercepti­on.

Andres Torres scored three goals to lead the NHS boys soccer team past Harding 70 ... McMahon beat Trinity Catholic 31 on goals by Aleko Petridis, Jose Calderon and Rolando Montero.

The city’s two boys soccer teams continued their fast starts this season as both local clubs improved to 41. Norwalk High rallied from an early 10 deficit to beat Greenwich 31. Sophomore Paco Fabian led the way with a pair of goals after teammate Rafael Bonaham had tied the score ... McMahon beat Trinity Catholic 61 as Mike Meserole and Andreas Hjerth each had a goal and an assist while James Doyle added two assists.

The McMahon field hockey team recorded its third straight shutout as the Lady Senators blanked Greenwich 10 in a rematch of last year’s FCIAC championsh­ip game. McMahon also won that game 10 for its first conference title. Christine Savas scored the only goal in the rematch with assists from Wendy DiCostanzo and Tammy Coleman. Goalie Michelle Audet, one of the stars in last year’s win, made 10 saves to post another shutout against the Cardinals.

The NHS girls volleyball team evened its record at 22 following a 30 sweep of Bridgeport Central. Nicole Bakes had 16 service points while Tina Kodonas added 15 and both players recorded four kills.

McMahon’s unbeaten football team continued to roll as the Senators beat Darien 410 for their third straight onesided shutout win. Idris Price scored four touchdowns while running for 144 yards on 14 carries. Jason Hall added 120 yards rushing on just nine carries, one of them a 76yard touchdown run. Price and Willie Mercado led another impressive defensive effort with six tackles apiece. The Senators have outscored the opposition 1300.

All three local high school football teams played at home Saturday afternoon with Central Catholic and Brien McMahon emerging victorious. The Cavaliers, with one of the smallest boys enrollment­s in the state, knocked off Danbury, with one of the largest, 140 to improve to 20. It was Central’s first win in three tries against the Hatters, including a 540 beating a year ago. But the rematch was a different story as the two teams battled for three scoreless quarters before the Norwalkers scored two fourthquar­ter touchdowns. Bob Pote finally broke the deadlock with a 1yard plunge into the end zone early in the period to cap an 85yard, 10play drive. QB Peter Murphy hit Bob Pyne with a twopoint conversion pass.

On the Cavs’ next possession they covered 76 yards on just four plays with Frank Ouellette running 45 yards for a TD to ice the win. Murphy completed 9of15 passes for 192 yards, including four receptions each by Ed Nardella for 93 yards and Jim Flynn for 90. Flynn caught passes for 19 and 32 yards on the first scoring drive, and another for 28 yards on the second. Bob Kramer picked off two intercepti­ons to lead the defense, which stopped Danbury four times inside the 15.

McMahon bounced back from a tough seasonopen­ing loss to beat Rippowam 216. Lloyd Fuller, who ran for 151 yards on 20 carries, scored from three yards out on the opening series. Abe Weldon added a 27yard touchdown run in the second quarter and sophomore Ken Correnty ran 43 yards for the final TD right before halftime and finished with 71 yards on only three carries. Rudy Gisolfi was 3for3 kicking extra points.

Norwalk fell to 02 after a 2722 loss to Andrew Warde. The Bears trailed 278 at halftime, but Dick Parkington scored two touchdowns in the second half on runs of 2 and 72 yards, and Rich Lewis added a twopoint conversion to make it 2722. NHS was driving for the goahead TD, but the Bears’ final drive ended at the Warde 28 with 52 seconds left. Lewis scored Norwalk’s first touchdown on a 70yard punt return.
