Priest among several facing abuse accusation­s nationwide

A Danbury priest arrested this month on accusation­s he inappropri­ately touched two boys is one of several priests across the country who recently made headlines for abuse allegation­s.

Father Jaime MarinCardo­na, who previously served as the priest at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Danbury, is due in court again later this month on sexual assault charges. The priest, who was stripped of his priestly duties last month, is accused of grooming two boys and sexually assaulting one of them. molestatio­n of a child, according to local media reports. He is accused of abusing two buys under 15 between 2003 and 2007. A 2012 civil lawsuit accuses Spaulding of molesting a 13-year-old multiple times in California in 1985.

Gillette was sentenced earlier this month to five years in prison for abuse accusation­s dating back to the 1970s, according to the Boston Globe.

Florida bishop Henry Lee Porter was arrested in early January on allegation­s of abuse toward children and adults over more than four decades, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported.

Nebraska priest John Kakkuzhiyi­l was found not guilty this month on charges he sexually assaulted a freelance writer in 2018 when she came to his house for an interview, according to local media reports.

Ohio priest Bob McWilliams has been in court this month on recent accusation­s that he solicited a nude photograph from a teenager, Cleveland.com reported.

Pennsylvan­ia priest Thomas A. Derzack was removed from ministry early this month on allegation­s he took “disturbing” photos of wrestlers at a tournament, according to The Morning Call.
