City reports 38 recent COVID cases
NORWALK — Norwalk continues to see a spike in coronavirus within the community with 38 new cases reported over the last two days.
The city received word of 28 new cases reported Sunday and 10 new cases on Monday. The cases reported represent results from tests taken over the course of the last week.
“The total positive cases in Norwalk are increasing,” Mayor Harry Rilling said in a statement. “We
haven’t seen this many cases since May. Clearly things are not trending in the right direction. It is critically important that residents follow all public health guidelines. We are
keeping a close eye on this situation and trying to identify trends in the community to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.”
Norwalk has seen a significant increase in new coronavirus cases over the last few weeks. Last week, at least 61 people tested positive for the virus and
44 people tested positive the week prior. Norwalk hadn’t had more than 20 new cases in a week since early June, but in late September, 28 people tested positive, beginning an upward trend in new cases.
There have now been 2,364 confirmed cases of
coronavirus in Norwalk since March and 149 deaths. City officials said they do not have numbers on how people have recovered from the virus, because there’s no standard definition of recovery due to ongoing studying of coronavirus. Many people also recover at home in
self-isolation.
There have been at least 17 cases of coronavirus within Norwalk Public Schools since classes resumed last month. On Saturday, the district confirmed five new cases at Cranbury Elementary School, Rowayton Elementary School, Roton Middle
School, Ponus Ridge Middle School, and Norwalk High School.
This story has been updated to reflect the cases reported Sunday represent tests taken over the course of the previous week.
