Mayme R. Ragland, born March 10, 1922, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, passed suddenly on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at the age of 98. She was the daughter of the late Lemuel Roy and Flossie Grant Rufus. While in Orangeburg, she attended Wilkinson Memorial High School. Upon her relocating to Stamford, CT, she completed her high school education and graduated from Stamford High School. She later moved to Norwalk, and has been a resident since 1965. Mayme was an employee of Beiersdorf Inc. for over 13 years until her retirement in 1998. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1969. At Calvary, she was a faithful member of the Hostess Club, Kitchen Beautifyin­g Committee, the Pastor’s Aid Committee, as well as being a member of the United Voices of Calvary Choir. Mayme was the wife of the late James E. Ray, Jr., and the late Sherman A. Ragland. She was predecease­d by two sons, Earnest M. and Kenneth L. Ray, as well as two brothers, George and Freddie Rufus. She leaves to mourn in her passing two special friends, Evelyn Etheridge and Mary Small; a Goddaughte­r, Shirley Baskin, and her family; as well as several nieces and a host of friends.
