- By Adriana Morga

Gov. Ned Lamont is the most popular Democrat governor, according to a survey by Morning Consult. In first place was the Republican governor of Vermont Phil Scott, followed by Massachusetts’ Gov. Charlie Baker.

Lamont placed seventh place in the overall ranking, with Gov. Jim Justice of West Virginia preceding him. According to the survey, 64 percent of Conmethodology necticut registered voters approved Lamont’s performance in the third quarter of 2021. The second most popular Democratic governor was Rhode Island’s Dan McKee, with 59 percent of approval.

Earlier this year, a Sacred Heart University poll found that 70.7 percent of state residents approved of Lamont’s handling of COVID-19.

The Greenwich resident has been serving as the 89th governor since January 2019, and his term will end in 2023. On Nov. 9, Lamont announced he will seek reelection for governor.

In recent months, Lamont had drawn criticism for some of his COVID mandates. In October, state Rep. Anne Dauphinais, R-Killingly, compared Lamont to Hitler over his vaccine requirements for state employees. Meanwhile, others have praised Lamont for his handling of the pandemic, including Connecticut being among the most vaccinated states in the nation.
