She married her loving husband Ralph on August 29, 1953 in St Johns Church, Bradford, IL and was blessed to enjoy the next 69 years with him. Throughout her married life she lived in IL and OH before moving to CT where she has spent the last 46 years in Darien and Norwalk.

Edie loved her garden. You can take the girl off the farm, but she still loved to dig in the dirt. She was also a skilled seamstress and every one of her children’s homes boasted beautiful curtains and many a baby was wrapped in a blanket of her making. She also loved to bake and was well known for her chocolate chip cookies which accompanied all her children and grandchildren to college at the start of every new year.

Edie enjoyed many rounds of golf at The CC of Darien whether it be with Ralph, the ladies golf league or chaperoning the Jr. Golfers and her prowess at bridge was legendary. She was a member of the Nutmeg Curling Club and made many lifelong friends through her participation in the bonspiels. Her nursing skills went to good use when she volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Drive, taught First Aid to her Girl Scout Troop, or bandaged up her grandkids skinned knees.

Edie was a very active parishioner and Eucharistic minister at St Matthew’s Church. She co-founded St Martha’s Ministry and was an advisor to the late Monsignor Walter Orlowski on the expansion of St Matthew Church.

She received the highest appointment as a Lady Grand Cross of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

Nothing brought her greater joy than her time with her family and they adored her. No matter what the occasion, there was always room for one more and her warm smile was welcoming and comforting to everyone she met.
