Suzanne Verene Racine

-

Suzanne Verene Racine, 93, wife of the late Gaston Racine, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2022 after a brief illness.

Born in Courrendlin, Switzerland, on May 31, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Caroline Beuret. She came to the United States with her husband, Gaston, in 1957. They became naturalized US citizens in 1962.

Intelligent and curious, Suzanne found herself engrossed in a long scientific career with the fibers research group at American Cyanamid. With her multilingual skills she greeted international visitors at work, and then, with Gaston, hosting the guests in her home where they became like family. Their guestbook on Pettom Road is signed by many happy and well-fed visitors.

In retirement, Suzanne and Gaston loved to travel. Together they visited numerous countries bringing back stories, photographs and many fond memories and mementos. She also spent hours in her garden caring for the extensive flowers that made her house the jewel of the neighborhood.

To know Suzanne was to love her. She was a friendly and generous spirit who liked to share Swiss chocolate with those who crossed her path. Compassion for animals brought her to rescue several beloved cats. An expert knitter, she could easily create a pair of socks, sweater or a blanket for her loved ones. Suzanne excelled at the game of bridge and had a long-standing set of friends and bridge partners at the Easton Senior Center.

Suzanne’s memory will be cherished by her many close friends and family, in the United States and Switzerland.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 8, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk.
