UConn’ Dailey did not travel with team, expected to join Huskies later this week

UConn associate head coach Chris Dailey did not travel to Oregon with the team Tuesday, but a team spokespers­on said she is expected to join the Huskies later in the week.

UConn is in Portland for the Phil Knight Legacy tournament. The Huskies will face Duke Friday at 6 p.m.

The UConn men’s and women’s teams flew together to Oregon Tuesday afternoon. The men will face Oregon Thursday in the Phil Knight Invitation­al.

Dailey collapsed on the court after the national anthem before UConn’s game against NC State Sunday at the XL Center in Hartford. She left the court on a stretcher, and was conscious and alert.

UConn said in a statement that she was transferre­d to UConn Health and

was later released following an assessment.

“CD is good,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said after the game. “Everything tested out pretty good. Nothing serious. Nothing threatenin­g. She’s alert. She’s awake.”

Dailey, 63, has been Auriemma’s top assistant since the two coaches arrived at UConn in 1985. The New Jersey native is a member of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, the first assistant coach to be inducted.
