Officials: 9 escape fire in South Norwalk
NORWALK — Officials say nine residents escaped a fire that destroyed a multi-family home Tuesday night.
Norwalk firefighters responded to the 40th block of Lexington Avenue, where the fire had started in a bedroom around 10 p.m., Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Shay said in a news release.
The fire “quickly spread to the floors above,” he said.
The belongings of the residents were destroyed and the home was gutted by the fire. Authorities have declared it unfit for occupancy.
The Red Cross is assisting the residents displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Shay said.
