Norwalk brothers plead guilty in kidnapping scheme

STAMFORD — Two Norwalk brothers face up to three years in prison after they pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges tied to a kidnapping scheme in 2017.

The Morgan brothers — David, 27, and Daniel, 28 — pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit second-degree assault and firstdegree unlawful restraint at the state Superior Court in Stamford Wednesday as part of a deal with prosecutors.

Assistant State’s Attorney Margaret Moscati said the two brothers face a 10-year prison sentence that can be suspended from zero to three years. The two have also been ordered to pay at least $15,000 in restitution and will also be placed on probation for three years.

The Morgans, along with an alleged codefendant, Tre Brown, 27, also of Norwalk, allegedly sold a small amount of marijuana to a Stamford resident and were paid in what they said were counterfeit bills. They planned to kidnap the buyer to get reimbursement, police said.

According to the arrest affidavits, the 24-year-old victim said three people who he identified as the Morgans and Brown assaulted him then forced him into a car. He was driven to his friend’s house on Stamford’s East Side, but was returned to his home after he could not find which apartment the friend lived in.

When they arrived at his house, the three men allegedly threatened to shoot the 24-yearold or take him to Norwalk and steal his shoes, the affidavit said. The man pulled away from the others and began yelling and pounding on the door of his home, the affidavit said.

The three men then drove away.

The 24-year-old suffered three hairline fractures to his jaw, Moscati said on Wednesday.

The Morgans and Brown were each charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree assault and conspiracy to commit firstdegree assault. Brown has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Morgan brothers are scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 14.
