New Canaan man to serve 10 years in prison for sex abuse of minors

STAMFORD — A New Canaan man will serve 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a host of charges connected to the sexual assault of two minor children from Darien.

Quinten Yonkers, 25, pleaded guilty to charges of employing a minor in an obscene performance, two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault of a minor and two counts of illegal sexual contact with a minor during a hearing at the state Superior Court in Stamford on Tuesday.

In return for his pleas, Yonkers received a 16-year prison sentence that will be suspended after he serves 10 years. Upon his release, Yonkers will also serve 20 years of probation.

Yonkers will also be required to register as a sex offender for 10 years once he is released from prison.

Stamford-Norwalk State’s Attorney Paul Ferencek said Yonkers was arrested after police received a cyber tip in July 2019 that he was in possession of videos and imag

es of child sexual abuse, some of which included inappropriate pictures of him and two minors from Darien.

An investigation by Darien police detectives confirmed that Yonkers had been in contact with local children for an extended period of time, according to police.

At his sentencing Tuesday, Yonkers said he was “deeply sorry” and “completely ashamed” for his actions.

“I know that this is not only about what I did, but about betraying the trust placed in me by this family. I know that my apology, my remorse and the sentence that I’m receiving will not take away the pain that I have caused,” Yonkers said.

Yonkers said that, while in prison, he has been receiving sexual offender treatment via various programs.

Mark Sherman, Yonkers’s Stamford criminal defense attorney, reiterated his client’s remorse in a statement following the sentencing.

“It was a dark time in my client’s life and he hopes this plea gives some closure to the victims involved.”

In addition to the sentence, Judge Gary White also placed a standing 70year criminal protection order protecting the victims’ family from having contact with Yonkers.
