UConn women’s basketball announced Tuesday afternoon that sophomore guard Azzi Fudd is expected to miss the next three to six weeks after suffering a right knee injury during UConn’s loss at Notre Dame last Sunday.

Fudd appeared to suffer the injury in the final minute of the first quarter after colliding with Aaliyah Edwards. During the next timeout, she was immediately looked at by trainers and taken to the locker room for examination.

She returned to the bench a few minutes into the second quarter and played a little over three minutes before coach Geno Auriemma took her out for the remainder of the game. Fudd was still in uniform and without ice or a brace on her knee when she rejoined the bench.

UConn said in a release that Fudd underwent an evaluation on Monday and an MRI confirmed the injury. There were no specifics provided on the type of knee injury she suffered.

With Fudd out and Dorka Juhsaz’s (broken thumb) return still to be determined, UConn has just eight healthy players for the time being. The Huskies host Princeton Thursday (7 p.m., Gampel Pavilion).

A time frame of three to six weeks could mean anywhere from three to 10 games without Fudd for the Huskies (6-1). After Princeton, UConn visits No. 20 Maryland Sunday, the teams plays Florida State on Dec. 18 at Mohegan Sun Arena.

UConn then plays a series of Big East opponents:

Seton Hall (Dec. 21), Creighton (Dec. 28), Marquette (Dec. 31), Butler (Jan. 3), Xavier (Jan. 5), DePaul (Jan. 8), and St. John’s (Jan. 11).

Fudd is UConn’s leading scorer at 20.6 points per game. She has emerged as UConn’s best player in the absence of Paige Bueckers, who is out for the season with a ACL injury.

As a freshman, Fudd missed 11 games with a foot injury. He also tore her ACL and MCL in her right knee while in high school in 2019.
