Mary Louise D’Orio, 95, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on December 8, 2022, at Norwalk Hospital surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Norwalk, Connecticu­t, on February 8, 1927, she was the daughter of Louis and Alice (Toone) D’Orio.

A lifelong resident of Norwalk, Mary went to local schools, graduating from Norwalk High School in 1945. She worked for many years in Norwalk, beginning with the brokerage firm Maples & Goldschmid­t. Mary also worked for attorney William Pelletreau, but her favorite job was working for Judge Alfred Santaniell­o.

Mary had a love of traveling and visited a number of exotic locales. She traveled frequently with many friends, especially enjoying the late summer in Cape Cod. She was a woman of faith and a devout member of St. Joseph Church in South Norwalk. Mary was an avid reader and was known to play a good hand of poker. Along with her brother, she was part of a decades-long card group that met weekly. Mary was a dedicated swimmer who stayed fit into her 90s. She was also a longtime volunteer at the Norwalk Hospital Gift Shop.

Mary is survived by four nephews and nieces, Jeffrey D’Orio, Lauren Stoops,

Jill Gallagher and Wayne D’Orio, and their respective families, her sister-in-law Beatrice D’Orio and several cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predecease­d by her brother Pasquale (Pat) D’Orio and her nephew, Louis D’Orio.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church in Norwalk on Friday, December 16th at 9:30 a.m. followed by interment at St. John’s Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to St. Joseph Church, 85 South Main Street, Norwalk, CT 06854, or a worthy charity of your choice.
