David M. Brody, MD died on December 13, 2022 after a brief illness. He was born in 1934 in Boston, MA. He graduated Harvard College and University of Virginia Medical School and completed his orthopaedic residency at the Hospital for Joint Diseases (NYC). Dr. Brody practiced medicine in Norwalk Connecticut for most of his career. A careful healer and patient teacher, he was beloved by his patients and the staff in both his office and operating room. He was open-ocean swimmer, marathon runner, triathlete, cross-country skier, and crossbow enthusiast. His love of marathon running led to an over 20-year volunteer role as the civilian medical director of the United States Marine Corps Marathon, a service to his country of which he was very proud. He also served two years as an army surgeon during the Vietnam War. While working full-time in Washington, DC in the late 1970s, he created a clinic just for runners in order to better document and study running injuries. He published his findings in “Running Injuries: Prevention and Management,” a Ciba Clinical Symposia published in 1981 and again in 1987. He never wanted to be just a “sports doctor,” so he returned to a private practice in Connecticut where he saw a wider variety of patients. Dr. Brody participated in committees of the Fairfield County Medical Association. He received the Scanlon Award from Norwalk Hospital for bringing innovations to the medical community. Dr. Brody is survived by his wife, Nancy, and his three children, Amanda Mitchell, David Brody (Perry), and Allison Brody (Peter) and seven grandchildren Jack (Andrea), Samuel David, Tucker, Truman, Lily, David Owen, and Perry Ann; his sister, Irene (David); and niece, Kristin (Bryan). He loved the Boston Red Sox, Cape Cod, and his many dogs, especially Elle. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to Feeding America South Florida or World Heritage USA.
