Quinnipiac grad gets on-air shot with WFAN

- By Christine Butterfield

Quinnipiac graduate Ryan Chichester was set to make his on-air debut for WFAN Saturday morning after spending almost two years as the station’s content producer.

Chichester began as a content producer for the New York all-sports station on Feb. 1, 2021. He gets the opportunity to host on air from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday.

The opportunity comes with other full-time hosts taking their vacations for the holidays, but this is something Chichester has been working toward for a long time.

“The program director worked with me going over some demo tapes and (he) decided I was ready and Christmas-time would be perfect because that’s when other hosts are on vacation,” Chichester said.

Chichester grew up in New Jersey then spent two years at Quinnipiac, where he wrote for the Quinnipiac Chronicle and hosted a weekly sports radio talk show on 98.1 WQAQ.

Chichester later became a sports reporter in central Connecticut for the New Britain Herald and the Bristol Press. He was also a writer and podcaster for SB Nation’s Pinstripe Alley, where he analyzed trends surrounding Yankees baseball.

Now after two years as the content producer at the iconic WFAN, Chichester has been trusted to take the microphone.

“It’s incredible. I mean, just like anyone my age from the tri-state area, I grew up listening to Mike and the Mad Dog. I always was excited to listen to them the day after anything big happened and New York sports,” Chichester said.

“It’s just been my dream for as long as I could remember to talk about sports on WFAN radio station of my childhood so to be able to know that I’m going to be able to say my name on those airwaves for the first time on Saturday, it’s going to be a dream come true. I don’t even know if it hit me yet. I don’t know what the will until I actually walk into the studio but I’m super excited.”
