Leonard Stanley Boykin

Leonard Stanley Boykin, 85, formerly of Camden, South Carolina and Norwalk, Connecticut departed this life January 12, 2023, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born September 26, 1937, in Camden, South Carolina to the late Johnny Boykin and Henrietta Williams Boykin.

Leonard, known to many as “Freck,” had a love for his family and all kinds of cars. He graduated from Mather Academy in Camden, South Carolina in 1956. In 1960, he was inducted in the United States Army, where he served Honorably. After serving, he worked for the Great Atlantic & Pacific (A&P) Tea Company as a storeroom clerk in Connecticut for over 10 years.

Leonard also proudly worked as a computer operator for Zytron in Fairfield, Connecticut and a supervisor for NSF Security, Inc. in Norwalk, Connecticut until he retired and returned to Camden, South Carolina in 1998.

Leonard was baptized at Trinity United Methodist Church in Camden, South Carolina, and he was a longtime member of Bethel AME Church in Norwalk, Connecticut,

where he served on the Board of Trustees for several years. He was also a member of the Sportsman’s Club of Norwalk, Inc.

Leonard was preceded in death by his former wife, Shirley Rumble Boykin, and eight siblings: Colveliski Boykin (Brother), John Sherdine Boykin ( JB), Alta Mae Weeks (Ada), Willie Blanche Cantey (Polly), Henrietta Gilda LaFate Cook (Fate), Hansel Eric Boykin, Shirley Alice Pettiford, and Consuela Boykin. He is survived by two siblings, Olivia Boykin Roebuck (Norwalk, CT) and Jessie Joyce Knight (Trumbull, CT); four children, Shari Cooke, Sybil Cooke-Barnes, Heidi La-Taya Boykin, and Jilda Terrise Boykin; a grandson, Stephen Cooke-Barnes, and many loving nieces and nephews.
