GAMES TO WATCH

New Canaan at Greenwich, Thursday, 4:30 p.m.: Starting off a big day in the FCIAC. New Canaan’s biggest stretch comes next week, when it has the three top teams in the GameTimeCT Top 10 Poll — Fairfield Prep, Darien and Staples — back-to-back-to-back. But this’ll be the Rams’ second top-10 conference game in a week; they contained Ridgefield in a 10-4 win and now get the Cardinals, who’ve been inconsistent at times but are still over .500.

Darien at Ridgefield, Thursday, 6:30 p.m.: It’s been eight years since you could drop “Darien, which has lost three out of four.” If Ridgefield makes it four out of five... you’re going back a ways. A long ways. The Tigers put together a solid bounceback win over Yorktown, N.Y., on Tuesday.

Staples-Westport at Wilton, Thursday, 7 p.m.: No. 1 Staples, the new No. 16 in USA Lacrosse Magazine’s national rankings (behind our No. 2/their No. 9 Fairfield Prep), backed up its win over Darien with a two-goal victory over Bergen Catholic of New Jersey. It comes back home to meet the Warriors, who are coming off a win over Greenwich. Notre Dame-West Haven at Guilford, Thursday, 7 p.m.: Two years removed from an outlier three-win season, Guilford is 4-1 after a win Tuesday over Amity. The loss is to Simsbury, and the Grizzlies have a few toughies to come, but it’s a 4-1 start going up against last year’s Class M runners-up, who are 5-2. Bethel at New Milford, Thursday, 7 p.m.: Bethel last year had its first winning season in almost a decade; it has started this season 5-1. New Milford, whose fine 2022 was its first winning season in five years, is 5-0. Both have a couple of weeks before meeting defending SWC and Class S champ Weston. Watertown at St. Paul-Bristol, Friday, 4 p.m.: Defending WCLC champion Watertown is off to a solid start heading into this first of two rematches of the 2022 conference championship

Weston at

Tuesday, 7 p.m.: Speaking of the defending SWC and Class S champions, the Trojans visit Newtown on Thursday and then visit the Falcons. Barlow is 3-2 with losses to Notre Dame-West Haven and New Milford. GameTimeCT Player of the Year (in football) Danny Shaban has 14 points for Barlow, behind Griffin Ellis and standout sophomore Tyler Ramirez.
