Westport home built in 1926 that won preservation award listed for nearly $3.8M
WESTPORT — More than 20 years ago, the New England-style colonial at 9 River Lane was reimagined to a contemporary family home, while still blending the old features with new modern amenities.
Built in 1926, the living room is the original part of the home with remnants in the beams. By 2001, the home was expanded and redesigned to match modern living. The home won the town of Westport’s Historic Preservation Award.
Bobbie Abagnale, the property’s listing agent, described the home as high-end, noting the owner’s attention to detail in the renovation process. The kitchen features two-inch Italian marble countertops, Venetian plaster walls and a stone fireplace from Vermont.
Abagnale commented on the home’s modern, European flair, creating a uniformed look.
“Especially when some build themselves, it is very unique, solid, just one of a kind,” Abagnale said. “It has an elegance to it. It is also very comfortable. You could use every room.”
The modern touches include high ceilings in the bedrooms, radiant heating floors and a cascading waterfall into a pond, according to the listing details.
The backyard’s Lshaped courtyard creates a space for outdoor entertainment. There is also an outdoor shower and garden area, part of the less than an acre lot. The upper patio area is accompanied with a large fireplace and heated gunite pool. The pool area is right off the gym, which has a separate entrance, with potential for an additional bedroom.
Currently, the house has five bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms, across nearly 6,300 square feet of living space.
The rooms spread across three floors including a mediation room on the top floor. There are two cupolas, which are vaulted, circular ceilings providing natural light. One cupola sits above the gym and the other in the upstairs hallway.
There is also a detached five-car garage.
River Lane sits along the Saugatuck River in Westport, which connects to Lee Pond.
It’s on the market for nearly $3.8 million, according to the listing.
