ROBERT M. “BOB” YOUNG

Robert M. “Bob” Young passed away in Oak­dale, Cal­i­for­nia on Wed­nes­day, July 18th just af­ter his 79th birth­day. Bob lived in Oak­dale and served the com­mu­nity as a State Farm In­surance Agent for 34 years. Bob was an avid mo­tor­cy­cle en­thu­si­ast who took great pride in his work, as well as, his fam­ily. He is sur­vived by his wife Jane Young; his brother, Lee Hayes of Wash­ing­ton; his sis­ter, Joyce Brown of Alaska; his chil­dren, Lucky (Roy Ann) Young, Don­nie (Diane) Young, Michele (Craig) Al­ford, and Tay­lor (Emily) Web­ster; 14 grand­chil­dren, 23 great-grand­chil­dren; and one great-great-grand­child. Bob, other­wise known as “Papa” to his fam­ily, will be missed tremen­dously.

Ser­vices will be held at Oak­dale Me­mo­rial Chapel on Satur­day, July 28th at 10 a.m. In lieu of flow­ers, the fam­ily re­quests that do­na­tions be made to Op­ti­mal Hos­pice Care of Modesto or the Alzheimer’s As­so­ci­a­tion of Modesto.

Craig An­thony Gladen, 76, passed away Satur­day, July 7th in Sacra­mento. He was born Novem­ber 2, 1941 to Alice Skel­ton Gladen and Dr. Ralph Gladen in Los An­ge­les. Craig grad­u­ated from Thomas Downey High School, in Modesto, Stanford Uni­ver­sity, where he stud­ied Ger­man lan­guage and lit­er­a­ture, and the Thun­der­bird School in Glen­dale, Ari­zona.

Craig was known for his sense of hu­mor and huge laugh as well as his keen mind, pas­sion and tenac­ity. He worked as a bank of­fi­cer for many years in Europe and the United States, but later be­came a found­ing owner of the rice pro­cess­ing and stor­age com­pany Great West­ern Grow­ers.

Craig had a pas­sion for fla­menco gui­tar mu­sic and stud­ied and played through­out his life. A lover of the out­doors, he was also a sports­man who en­joyed hunt­ing and fly fish­ing. Craig had over 40 years of ser­vice in AA, work­ing with oth­ers to save their lives and find them­selves and so­bri­ety.

Craig was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, and sis­ter, Judy Gladen. He is sur­vived by his child­hood friend and lov­ing wife, Judi Gladen, his chil­dren, Anne, Cynthia, and Calvin, and grand­chil­dren, Noah, Luke and Nate Gladen-Ko­larsky, and Nora and Gabriel Sweeney-Gladen.

A funeral ser­vice will be held at 11 a.m. on Fri­day, July 27th at Franklin and Downs Funeral Home, 1050 McHenry Ave., in Modesto, with in­ter­ment at 1:30 p.m. at Lake­wood Me­mo­rial Park, 900 Santa Fe Ave., in Hugh­son.
