Another resident filed the appropriate paperwork for the local City Council positions, bringing the total to three vying for the two open spots.

Christopher Smith joins the race with City Council incumbent Cherilyn Bairos and newcomer Teresa Kinney in running for the two available four-year posts. Election Day will be Tuesday, Nov.6. Recently named Mayor Pro Tem J.R. McCarty filed for the open mayor position as current mayor Pat Paul will not be seeking another term. McCarty is running unopposed.

Former Mayor Pro Tem Tom Dunlop vacated his position to relocate to another state, which left the council needing to fill that seat. Council voted to go the appointment route, as opposed to a special election, to fill the position. Interested parties are encouraged to pick up an appointment packet at City Hall. There is a $25 fee to file. Interviews are slated for Sept. 17.

All positions on the Oakdale City Council represent the City at-large.

Measure C will also be on the ballot in November. Measure C will enable the City of Oakdale to impose a business license tax at a rate up to 15 percent of gross receipts on cannabis businesses and dispensaries to help fund municipal services.

Also, three people have filed within special districts on the November ballot.

Incumbent Daniel Cummins, Kent Kushar, and Edward Chock have filed for Oak Valley Hospital District director positions.
