Huerto Restaurant & Tequila Bar opens
Huerto Restaurant & Tequila Bar, a contemporary new Mexican culinary experience, opened Monday in West Bloomfield Township.
The restaurant derived its name “Huerto” from the Spanish word, “orchard,” to tie in with the address of 6199 Orchard Lake Road.
Huerto is open for both lunch and dinner serving a blend of creative southwestern and traditional Mexican cuisine, along with a sprinkling of American dishes. The same menu is featured for both lunch and dinner.
The new eatery features moderately-priced, creative Mexican cuisine in a festive, contemporary atmosphere for both families and the late night crowd. Prices range from $3.49 a la carte for tacos, flautas and tamales to $20.99 for a full slab rib dinner.
Huerto was created by MSE Hospitality LLC. Co-owner Safa Zaraga, formerly with the awardwinning and popular Sagebrush Cantina in Lake Orion, will oversee daily operations with co-owner Eduardo Mayin, who has held management positions with several popular restaurants and venues, most recently Loccino’s Italian Grill & Bar in Troy. Collectively, the team has more than 40 years of experience in the restaurant industry; Huerto is their first venture together.
“We are very excited to bring excellent, homemade southwestern and Mexican cuisine served in an exciting atmosphere to the Metro Detroit dining scene,” said Zaraga.
While there’s something for everyone, the adult crowd can choose from traditional and specialty margaritas and tequila craft cocktails, as well as more than 75 different types of tequila to sip or shoot. Huerto’s offers a full bar, including several varieties of beer and wine.
“Customer satisfaction is our paramount objective,” said Mayin. “Huerto is a place where everyone can feel comfortable and truly enjoy themselves. We want to be the restaurant of choice for patrons young and old, families, couples and singles.”
With a colorful interior created by renowned restaurant designer Ron Rea, Huerto’s ambience is a balance between a family-friendly environment and a lively bar scene. A large, brick fireplace is the centerpiece of the main dining room, while a second fireplace warms the outdoor covered patio. Rollup garage doors separating the indoor and outdoor dining areas add industrial chicness; wooden tables echo those found in a traditional cantina; and a vibrant color scheme with contemporary lighting gives Huerto a very mod- ern feel.
In addition to the main dining room with seating for 90 patrons, and the outdoor patio accommodating 80, Huerto features a large bar area with plenty of standing room and high top tables for about 80 guests. Plus, a bright, spacious banquet room can accommodate another 100 guests for private parties and overflow restaurant seating. In total, Huerto seats approximately 350 people.
