State kicks off $16 million 2020 Census awareness campaign
The largest census campaign in Michigan’s history is about to be underway.
The 2020 Census, with the goal of counting everyone once where they live, will take place in midMarch culminating on April 1 — The day every household in the U.S. will have been invited to respond to the census.
It’s a $16 million outreach, marketing and preparation effort for Michigan. In collaboration with the Michigan Nonprofit Association and local government census count committees across the state, the Michigan 2020 Census campaign is hoping to achieve an 82% response rate.
More than 40 foundations are also supporting the Michigan Nonprofit Association’s
efforts through the Council of Michigan Foundations. The association recently created a website, becountedmi2020.com, with information and resources pertaining to the 2020 Census.
Throughout March the state and its partners will launch radio, television, billboard, social media and newspaper advertisements about the census. Direct mailings from the U.S Bureau will be sent to homes from March 12 to March 20.
The 2020 Census marks the first time that individuals will be able to respond online.
